Frequently Asked Questions

HOW MUCH DOES A FIRST APPOINTMENT COST?
When you are wanting to know if we can work with you this conversation is free. It might be during a phone call, or we may arrange to meet up to discuss your needs and whether we can support you.
ARE THERE GOING TO BE UNEXPECTED CHARGES?
No, all work will be discussed with you and you will be given a quote for the agreed work before it starts. This means that you can then ‘shop around’ for other psychologists in order to compare quotes. Any additional work that we would want to undertake would be discussed with you and costed before being completed. All costings are made on an hourly rate. Any additional costs are individually identified and agreed with you before the work begins.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WORK TAKES LONGER THAN PLANNED?
If it takes longer to complete part of the work than we had originally expected and costed for, then this is our fault and you will not be charged extra for this. The quote that you receive for the agreed work is the maximum amount that you would be asked to pay for that work. Not a penny more.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS AN APPOINTMENT?
We would ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice if it is not going to be possible to keep to an agreed appointment. If you are not able to give notice then I am afraid we would need to charge you for the appointment as though it had happened.
HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS THE INFORMATION THAT I SHARE WITH YOU?
As part of our professional registration, psychologists are require to work to strict codes of conduct. This includes ensuring that when appropriate information that is shared or disclosed during appointments is kept confidential. However, we are also required to share information with appropriate agencies or authorities when we are concerned about the wellbeing of someone (either yourself or someone else). In these cases we would aim to let you know who we have spoken to and what we have shared.

More generally, we have an Information Handling policy which yofor, u can access below and which ensures that we are compliant with current General Data Protection Regulations.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT YOUR PSYCHOLOGIST IS SAFE TO WORK WITH?
All health professionals are required by law to register with an independent organisation called the Health and Care Professions Council. This organisation monitors the quality of health professionals by checking their qualifications, their training and makes sure that they keep up to date with their skills and knowledge. Dr Peter Corr is fully registered with the HCPC (registration number: PYL………..).
DR PETER CORR HAS ENHANCED LEVEL DBS CLEARANCE - WHAT IS THIS?
Dr Peter Corr also carries an Enhanced level of Disclosure and Barring clearance (DBS). All individuals working with children or other vulnerable groups must declare any convictions and criminal history that they may have. This check is provided in the form of a DBS certificate, and for vulnerable groups an Enhanced level of required.
HOW LONG DO APPOINTMENTS USUALLY LAST?
This will vary depending upon the type of work, the age of the young person, how well someone can concentrate etc… The length of appointments will be agreed with you when the work is being planned, but typically an appointment may be for 60-90 mins.
WHERE DO APPOINTMENTS TAKE PLACE?
These will usually take place where the child / young person is going to feel most relaxed. This will typically be at home, at school or another agreed location. Clinical rooms can be booked for appointments if you wish but they usually have a cost. I also find that clinical rooms can be unsettling to young people and they don’t always give their best in these situations.
